It all starts with compassion for the disadvantaged.
Deaf School For Children
Conceived as a result of having his own son who was born deaf, Pastor John K. Summers, now in his 90’s, has poured his life into this project. He named it the Paul Project in honor of his son Paul. Deaf children are given the opportunity to learn sign language, reading and writing skills. The motto of the Deaf Center is “REACHING HIGHER”.
One of our students, a 16 year old girl from a remote mountain village, who had never before heard a sound is among our students. She never attended school prior to coming to Place of Hope in Haiti. Within the first few months of her time at the Deaf School she is now forming words both in Creole and English.
We provide our children with:
- Hearing testing
- Used hearing aides
- ASL sign language classes
- A dedicated teacher for all their education and vocational classes
